One Book, One Community 2016

In partnership, the Fargo Public Library,  Moorhead Public Library, West Fargo Public Library, Concordia College Library, Minnesota State University Moorhead Library, and North Dakota State University Libraries are pleased to announce the 2016 One Book, One Communityselection “The Latehomecomer” by Kao Kalia Yang.

A firsthand account of the immigrant experience from the Hmong perspective, this book chronicles the journey of the author’s family from a refugee camp in Thailand to America. This book addresses the universal themes of family and love while sharing the family’s struggle to adapt in a strange culture while holding onto traditions that are passed down from Yang’s beloved grandmother.

This year’s One Book, One Community reading project launches in September and features several events including a community book discussion centered on immigration, film screenings, a genealogy workshop, and other engaging events and programs. This year’s One Book, One Community project will finish with two author events set for Friday, Oct. 14. First, Ms. Yang will speak at an invitation only, informal “Tea with the Author” event at the Moorhead Public Library in the afternoon. Later that evening, she will take the stage for an author presentation and book signing at the Comstock Memorial Union Ballroom (1104 7th. Ave. South) on the campus of MSUM. This event is free and open to the public.
